Have you just received a prenatal or birth diagnosis of Down syndrome on behalf of your baby? It can be a very frightening and confusing time. We want you to know you are not alone, and there is no 'wrong' way to feel right now. A diagnosis of Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) is not always presented in an unbiased fashion, and we believe it's important to receive accurate and realistic information from Colorado parents who have been in your shoes. Baskets of Love is a local non-profit group representing families who love someone with Down syndrome. Every unique basket is a complimentary offering of 'Congratulations!' and connection, and includes the following letter, along with a collection of personal stories and local resources. |
"Dear Families,
We wanted to be among the first to say 'Congratulations on the arrival of your precious, new baby!' What an awesome blessing it is to have a precious new life to hold, snuggle and care for. Please accept this basket as our gift of love to you. It was prepared especially for you by parents and friends of ours that love us and our kids. Included are some gifts and local resources, as well as some pictures of our families and letters from those of us that have children with Down Syndrome. We want to reach out to you and say “Congratulations!” because we’ve been there and can see a little way down the road you just started and we want to tell you – it’s a grand adventure, filled with uncounted blessings which are well worth the struggles. Isn’t every new parenting venture that way?
Congratulations and blessings to you, from our family to yours."
